426/5; The Spartans respond to the
Aetolians' appeal for cooperation in launching a joint attack upon
Naupactus,
and send a force of 3000 under the command of
Eurylochus,
Macarius, and Menedaius.
The army assembles at
Delphi
in Phocis and a number of the tribes of West Locris, induced by
Amphissa,
send hostages to the Spartans and join in the
expedition.
Eurylochus lodges the hostages in
Cytinium
and advances upon Naupactus through West Locris, capturing first
Oeneon
and
Eupalium.
Joined now by the Aetolians, the Spartan
force advances upon
Naupactus.
