- Athenian general Pythodorus sent to Sicily
with a few ships to succeed Laches;
- 40 ships follow, commanded by Eurymedon and
Sophocles son of Sostratides (4.2).
- Demosthenes
accompanies the fleet, after having received permission to use it
along the Peloponnesian coast.
- The Athenians are directed to relieve
Corcyra on the way; exiles are plundering from the
mountains.
