Exact boundaries between regions are not shown because they were constantly changing, and the purpose of the map is to provide a rough sketch of relevant locations.  As is shown on the map, Attica occupied a small area in the ancient Greek world of the sixth through fourth centuries BCE.  Athens was, and is, the capital.  The Amazons were credited with living in the land aroung the Black Sea: Thrace, Scythia and Sauromatae; and Northern Africa according to different sources.  The Greek's opponents during the Persian Wars, occupied the land across its eastern waters; the Aegean Sea.  The Spartans, their enemies of the Peloponnesian Wars, lived mainly on the neighboring land to the southwest of Athens.  Aside from the location of Sparta, this territory as such, is not represented, again its borders were in an almost perpetual state of motion as were the borders of the territories surrounding Attica, with which it formed alliances.
